INFINITE GARDEN: FROM GIVERNY TO AMAZONIA

In Infinite Garden: From Giverny to Amazonia, the garden was taken as the theme for an essay on some of the artistic readings presented. In them, the garden is not a space organized under the principles of symmetry and balance, but an environment and object of experimentation.

The exhibition was organized by the Center Pompidou-Metz and presented itself as an exhibition on artistic works that make the garden and nature their motives for inquiry. To this end, productions by artists who produce blurry and undisciplined gardens were presented; particular compositions very different from the planned garden and obeying predetermined rules in hermetic projects.

The drawings by Lina Bo Bardi that participated in the exhibition were related to works by Roberto Burle-Marx. In addition to the friendship relationship, the two shared common interests for the composition of spaces and offered tropical alternatives to the modern premises of European functionalism. His garden projects, although planned, included natural processes in the construction of biomorphic spaces designed to integrate nature with culture.
