Leonor Antunes: Vazios, intervalos e juntas

The exhibition by Leonor Antunes, second edition of the partnership between Instituto Bardi / Casa de Vidro and the Museu de Arte de São Paulo, simultaneously occupied the first basement of MASP and the room of the Glass House, closing the cycle of exhibitions “História das mulheres, Histórias feministas”, which also featured “Lina Bo Bardi: Habitat”, presenting the legacy of the Italian-Brazilian architect.

In “Vazios, intervalos e juntas”, the Portuguese artist followed her modus operandi, using her archive of references of productions by various artists, architects and designers, mainly from the 20th century, to create sculptures that connect these different characters and dialogue with the space they were conceived, in case, the two projects by Lina Bo Bardi.

In the works produced for the Glass House are present, in addition to references to architectural spaces and furniture designed by Lina Bo Bardi, the influences of Cuban designer Clara Porset, Italian architect and designer Franco Albini, who was a reference for Lina herself, and Lygia Clark, who lends her name to one of the works: “Lygia”, a set of shapes inspired by “Trepantes”, one of the works of the Brazilian artist, hang from the structure of the first shelves of the Glass House library, designed by Lina and reconstructed by Leonor from photographs of the time.

The other work in the room was the set of sculpture-tables entitled “Discrepâncias com Lina”, where the windows of SESC Pompeia mold the heavy cement tops that are supported by the thin brass structure, directly dialoguing with the furniture designed by the architect who it integrates the entire social area of ​​the house, together with some of the items from the popular art collection belonging to the Instituto Bardi’s collection.
